Description:Job Summary:The Medical Laboratory Assistant I performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties for the newly established Surgical Innovation and Training Laboratory (SITL) in the department of Surgery. The individual assists in the preparation and set-up of materials for events and training that will be held regularly in the SITL. Duties:Key Responsibilities/Duties:
Washes laboratory glassware, instruments, and apparatus, using appropriate cleaning materials
Inventories lab supplies, participate in instrument and equipment inventory management, notify any supply shortage, obtain supplies from various sources at the university, vendors and sponsors, optimizes resource utilization.
Accepts and Stocks received orders
Loads and operates autoclave to sterilize laboratory glassware and instruments.
Maintains and cleans laboratory instruments and equipment, notifies of any breakdown
Participates in setting up equipment for robotic surgery training events
Processes orders, receives and disposes specimens for training events
Prepares and processes cadaveric human and large animal model specimens for training events.
Discards all waste materials based on lab protocols
Writes and records the details of training events in the lab both electronically and on log books

Ability to follow simple written and oral instructions.
Strong communication skills and self-motivated; Interacts effectively with trainers, trainees, researchers, office staff in the lab, as well as people from other support services.
Responds to trainer/trainee's concerns and questions promptly and professionally and redirects the concerns and questions when necessary.
